If You Want the Postcard: December–April
Clear skies, calm lagoons, cool mornings, mirror water. Also the most demand — book weeks ahead for the dates you actually want, especially around Christmas and Easter.

If You Want the Reserve Almost to Yourself: September–October
The wettest months are also the emptiest. Rain usually arrives as an afternoon downpour that clears in an hour, the forest is spectacular and the light after storms is unlike anything in the dry season. This is hurricane peak, so watch the forecast — if the reserve closes for weather, tours are refunded in full.
The Local Secret: November
Dry air arriving, everything still green from the rains, migrants landing, crowds not yet. Ask any guide when they would take their own family and most say November.
About Sargassum
Sargassum affects the open Caribbean coast, generally worst from April to August, and varies enormously year to year. It does not reach the freshwater lagoons and the ancient canal — which is why on bad sargassum weeks our lagoon tours become the best water in the region.
What Never Changes
Start early. The lagoon is glass before 9 a.m. in every month of the year, wildlife is active, and the heat has not arrived. That is why almost everything we run departs at 6:00 a.m.

No. Sargassum affects open coastline, not the freshwater lagoons and canal where our tours operate.
What about hurricane season?
June to November, peaking September–October. If weather closes the reserve or we cancel, you receive a full refund.
